Frequently asked questions

Everything about setting Epocra up, what it records, and what happens to your calls afterwards.

Getting started

The basics of what Epocra is and how to switch it on.

It records your calls, transcribes them with speaker labels, and writes you a summary a few minutes after you hang up — including the follow-ups you agreed to, pulled out as tasks. You can then ask questions about any past call, or across your whole history.

You don't take notes, and you don't press anything during the call.

You get one, but you don't have to give it out. Most people keep using the number they already have and simply forward it to Epocra, so nobody they deal with notices anything different.

Sign up, then forward your existing mobile number to the Epocra number you're given. That's one code dialled from your phone and takes about thirty seconds.

Step-by-step instructions for your carrier →

No. Calls you make from the Epocra app are recorded straight away with nothing to set up. Forwarding is only needed so that calls people make to you also come through Epocra.

Plenty of people start with outgoing only and add forwarding later.

Not at the moment — we don't support number porting yet. Forwarding achieves the same practical result: you keep your number and your carrier, and calls to it ring in Epocra.

Calls & recording

What gets captured, and what changes about your phone.

Both sides of every call that goes through Epocra — ones you make from the app, and ones that reach you through forwarding.

Calls you take directly on your carrier line, without forwarding on, aren't part of it.

Your own — the mobile number you verified when you signed up. Not the Epocra number. As far as the person you're calling is concerned, nothing about you has changed.

If you'd rather show a different number, you can change it in Settings. You verify the new one by SMS first, so it has to be a number you actually control.

No. That's the point of forwarding: the call goes to Epocra instead, and rings in the app. Your own dialler stays quiet.

It's reversible at any time with a single code, and it takes effect immediately.

It stops taking messages, because calls never reach it. Epocra answers voicemail instead, and transcribes it so you can read the message rather than dial in to listen.

One code from your phone: *73 on Verizon, ##21# on T-Mobile and most other networks, #21# on AT&T. It's immediate, and your phone goes back to exactly how it was.

Yes. Epocra calls behave like any other call on your phone, so your headset, car and speakerphone all work normally.

Transcripts & AI

What you get after the call ends.

Within a few minutes of hanging up. It arrives by email and is waiting in the app, so you usually have it before you've got back to your desk.

We use the best transcription models available today. Speakers are labelled too, so you can see who said what rather than reading one undifferentiated block.

Commitments made during the call — things you said you'd send, book, confirm or chase — extracted automatically and collected in your Tasks list. You tick them off as you go.

Yes, and you can ask questions in plain English rather than guessing keywords. Things like “what did I promise the Fairview buyer?” or “when did we last talk about the roof quote?” work across your whole history, not just one call.

No, and it isn't going to. Epocra sits with you on your calls and does the remembering — it doesn't take them on your behalf or talk to your clients. The value is in what happens after you hang up, not in replacing the conversation.

Apps & devices

Where you can use it.

iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and the web. It's the same account and the same call history everywhere — take a call on your phone and the transcript is on your desktop.

No. Forwarded calls reach you whether or not the app is in the foreground, and recording and transcription happen on our side rather than on your handset.

Yes. Sign in on as many of your own devices as you like; they all show the same calls.

Privacy & legal

Who can hear your calls, and what the law expects.

It depends where you and the other person are, and it's worth knowing the rules that apply to you before you start.

In the US, some states allow recording with the consent of just one party to the conversation — which can be you. Others require everyone on the call to consent. Calls that cross state lines can be subject to the stricter rule. Other countries differ again.

The simple, safe habit that keeps you right almost everywhere is to tell people you're recording and let them object. Most never do.

This is general information, not legal advice — if you're unsure, check the rules for your state or ask a lawyer.

You. Every account is encrypted with its own key, so one customer's data is not readable with another customer's.

On top of that, the database enforces account-level isolation on every single query — records belonging to one account are not reachable from another, even by mistake. It is not a filter the application remembers to apply; it is enforced underneath, on every read and write.

On our servers, sent over an encrypted connection, so you can reach them from any of your devices rather than only the phone that took the call.

Yes — from Settings, at any time, without contacting anyone.

If you've set up forwarding, turn it off before you close the account. Your Epocra number is released when the account closes, and calls still forwarding to it won't reach you.

Beta & billing

What it costs right now.

It's free during the beta, and there's no credit card to start. You get the full product, not a cut-down version.

Paid plans start, and you'll hear about it well before anything changes. Nobody gets charged without being told first and choosing to continue.

Close your account from Settings whenever you like. There's nothing to phone up about and no notice period.

Turn call forwarding off first if you set it up — see above for why.

Still stuck?

Email us and a person will answer — usually the same day.
