During a call
Epocra is a phone, so everything you expect from one is here: hold, transfer, a keypad, a third person on the line. A few things are not what you expect, and those are the ones worth reading about.
When a call comes in
An incoming call rings every device you have signed in or registered, and whichever one you answer takes it. The rest stop ringing.
Answer or Decline as you would on any phone. Declining sends the caller to voicemail rather than cutting them off, assuming voicemail is on. See Voicemail.
What Epocra shows you while it rings
This is the part that has no equivalent on an ordinary phone. Before you pick up, the incoming call screen shows Last discussed: the topics from your most recent conversations with that person.
Once you are on the call, the same context panel stays available, along with any previous tasks you still owe them. You get to open with "I know I still owe you those figures" instead of finding out at the end.
This only appears for people you have spoken to through Epocra before. A first-time caller has no history to show.
The basic controls
- Mute — silences your side. The call keeps recording; muting is not a way to keep something off the recording. To do that, stop the recording — see below.
- Hold — parks the caller. They hear hold music and cannot hear you.
- Speaker and audio routing — switch between the earpiece, speaker, and any connected headset or car audio. Bluetooth devices appear here and behave as they do on any other call.
- Keypad — opens a dial pad for tones during the call, which is what you need for phone menus, conference PINs and extension numbers.
A recording indicator shows while the call is being recorded, so you can always see the true state rather than assuming it.
Stopping the recording mid-call
If a conversation turns to something you would rather not keep, you can stop the recording without ending the call. Open More and choose Stop recording.
You are asked to confirm first, because it does two things at once: recording stops, and the call will not be available in the AI assistant — no transcript, no summary, nothing to ask questions about later.
Once stopped, recording cannot be restarted for the call you are on. The option greys out and reads Recording stopped for the rest of it. If you want the conversation captured, hang up and call back rather than carrying on.
The recording indicator on the call screen follows the real state, so after stopping you can see that it has actually stopped rather than taking it on trust.
Two related things worth knowing:
- If the option is greyed out and reads Recording disabled, call recording is switched off for your account entirely, under Settings › Call recording.
- For people you never want recorded, excluding the contact or their contact type is better than remembering to stop it each time. See Excluding contacts.
Transferring a call
Two kinds, and the difference matters:
- Warm transfer — you put the caller on hold, ring the person you are transferring to, speak to them first, and then connect the two. Use this when the other person needs briefing, or when you want to be sure they actually pick up.
- Blind transfer — the call is handed straight over without you speaking to anyone. Faster, but you are dropped out of it immediately and you will not know whether it was answered.
A warm transfer can be abandoned. If you change your mind, or the person you rang does not pick up, Cancel puts you back with the original caller and takes them off hold. If the far end hangs up during the attempt, Epocra brings your caller back rather than leaving them parked.
Adding a third person
Add call dials someone else while your first call waits, and Merge puts everyone into one conversation. Once a conference is running, Manage lets you work on individual participants rather than the whole call — muting one person, holding one leg, or dropping someone while the rest carry on.
When you hang up
Nothing to do. Recording, transcription and the summary happen on our side, so you can put the phone straight in your pocket. See Transcripts, summaries and tasks.
